Adine and her team know from experience that wild elephant herds rarely accept unrelated elephants,they relied on an elephant herd raised by humans – a herdall orphaned 30 years ago and deemed useless to conservation. In doing so they forged a new way of elephant rehabilitation! But it almost didn’t happen because young, nursing elephant orphans are notoriously difficult to keep alive and with no guide book on how to do this, this team had to rely on their instincts and experience to navigate the dilemmas appearing with each step of the process.
