BEAR ATTACKS – Grizzlies Changing Habits Spark Concern

Be on alert! Grizzly bears are exhibiting some red flag behaviors which researchers say is leading to a significant increase in bear killings.
According to a recent documentary, disruptions at the grizzly’s habitat have led to increased interactions with humans. Researchers said that warming temperatures not only alter the animals hibernation patterns but have also decimated a primary food source for grizzly bears – the seeds from the white bark pine cone.
By allowing the invasive white pine beetle to flourish, conservationists suggested that the lack of food has pushed malnourished bears searching for something to eat into areas much closer to humans, leading to some devastating consequences. Listen here what we’ve seen is a dramatic escalation in the numbers of bears dying because of conflicts over livestock and because of encounters with hunters.
Researchers are looking into ways to keep both bear and humans safe!
